Overview

Oregon State University’s Ecampus BS in Computer Science is the gold standard for online CS students who need ABET-CAC accreditation. Ecampus students receive the identical degree as on-campus OSU students — the diploma does not say “online.” OSU has one of the strongest employer pipelines in the Pacific Northwest tech corridor (Nike, Intel, Amazon, Microsoft, Google all recruit from OSU) and is widely respected as a feeder for graduate programmes including Georgia Tech OMSCS.

Accreditation: Regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). ABET-CAC accredited — one of a small number of online CS programmes with this credential.

Verdict

8.7/10
BEST FOR

Students whose target employers (DoD, aerospace, Intel, defence contractors) explicitly require ABET-CAC, and segment-6 pre-OMSCS students

SKIP IF

Budget buyers — the per-credit cost is higher than WGU or SNHU, and the ABET advantage is irrelevant for most Big Tech and fintech hiring

PRICE

$572/credit

Cost breakdown (as of 2026)

ItemAmount
Per credit hour (eCampus rate)$572
Full 120-credit sticker total$68,640
With 90 transfer credits (30 credits remaining)$17,160
With 60 transfer credits (60 credits remaining)$34,320
Estimated books/materials$1,500-$2,500

Total realistic out-of-pocket: $25,000 - $45,000 depending on transfer credits and timeline. This is among the higher-priced online CS options, justified by ABET and employer pipeline.

Accreditation details

  • Regional accreditation: NWCCU
  • ABET-CAC: Yes — one of a small number of fully online programmes with this
  • Same degree as on-campus: Yes — diploma does not indicate online delivery
  • GI Bill: Accepted. Verify at VA WEAMS.
  • Post-Bacc CS: Also available — a certificate programme for second-degree students, widely respected as OMSCS preparation

Employer pipeline

OSU has active recruiting relationships with Intel (headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon), Nike, Amazon, Microsoft, and regional tech companies. The Ecampus career services team is specifically resourced for distance students — this is a material advantage over SNHU or WGU, whose employer pipelines are weaker.

For segment-6 (pre-OMSCS), OSU’s Post-Bacc CS is the most commonly recommended path to Georgia Tech OMSCS admission after multiple OMSCS rejections.

Pros

  • + ABET-CAC accredited — essential for DoD/aerospace
  • + Same degree as on-campus OSU students
  • + Strong employer pipeline in Pacific Northwest
  • + Best online option for pre-OMSCS preparation
  • + Diploma does not indicate online delivery
  • + Post-Bacc CS available for second-degree students

Cons

  • - Higher per-credit cost than WGU or SNHU
  • - ABET advantage irrelevant for most tech companies
  • - Not self-paced — structured semester system
  • - Competitive admissions compared to SNHU
